WebJul 29, 2024 · I used a granny charger a lot on my plugin Chevy Volt Mk1, anywhere from 6 to 10A, and at 5 years old it blew up spectacularly. Blew up so well it managed to damage the car, so I had £1300 bill finally after repairs were done. Granny chargers can & do wear out, so are best kept for very light, occasional use. Both as a cost reduction for Tesla and the fact that a very very small percentage of people use it. They can see from the cars' computer how often they are used, and it was very low if I recall.
